We just returned from nearly 2-weeks in Michigan which included the UKC Premier Show. There were two Barbet entered – Tug (Can Ch. Tolouse Biscay’s Sapphire THD) and Claire (BIS Can/UKC Ch. Neigenuveaux’s Ermagarde). Claire’s daughter, Solene Hickory Tavern Intl Intrigue, was too young to show, but she was along for the experience.
The UKC Premier brought in many spectators with breed shows, obedience competitions, agility trials, rally events, lure coursing, cart pulling, and dock jumping. While we were there for the conformation shows and junior handling events, it was really fun watching the different events. The UKC recognizes 300+ breeds of dog (the Barbet is listed in Gun Dogs) so I saw some breeds that I’d only seen in photos. It is a popular venue for AKC FSS breeds although the family-friendly shows also attract some top owner-handled dogs of established breeds as well. I was impressed by the dogs that I watched dock jump in the morning and show in group in the afternoon. The Premier was entertaining, educational, and inspirational.
I look forward to next year’s UKC Premier. I hope to see more Barbet there next year. I will add obedience for Tug and will bring Shea for rally or agility. It was a fun, friendly event.
